Goal with Destination URL

Step 1: Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of your analytics dashboard for the profile you’re setting up the goal in.

Step 2: In the secondary navigation, select the “Goals” tab. Next, choose the Goal Set for which you want to add the new goal in.

Step 3: Add your goal name and select the “URL Destination” goal type.

Step 4: Enter your goal URL (the URL of your confirmation page) in the Goal URL field underneath Goal Details.

Step 5: Does the goal URL ever vary (in full) from what you have entered in Step 4?

NO YES

Step 6: Set Match Type to “Exact Match”. Be sure to check the Case Sensitive box if your URL above must exactly match the capitalization of visited URLs.

Does the goal URL have simple variations before it (e.g. /seo-tools/account-create/signup.html and /social-tools/account-create/signup.html) or are they more complicated (e.g. the URL is unique for the visitor’s session - /visitor1341/seo-tools/account-create/signup.html)?

Step 6: Set Match Type to “Head Match”. Be sure to check the Case Sensitive box if your URL above must exactly match the capitalization of visited URLs.

Step 6: Set Match Type to “Regular Expression Match” and modify the goal URL you entered in Step 4 to include appropriate regular expressions. Fore help setting up your regular expressions, please review this free regular expressions guide from LunaMetrics.

Step 7 (optional): Enter a value for your goal in the Goal Value field.

Step 8: Is this goal URL part of a funnel (multi-step process or series of pages)?

NO YES

Click “Save” and your goal is set up!

Click the “Use Funnel” checkbox and enter in the URL of each step of your funnel. Be sure to label each step in the funnel, too.

Click “Save” and your goal is set up!
